Steam Room

Before we explore the steam room installation steps, let’s explore more about the steam rooms we have with us today.

There are two types of steam rooms, the traditional tiled steam rooms, and the modern acrylic steam rooms. A traditional tiled steam room basically has two requirements – a steam generator or a steam boiler and a glass steam room door.

A modern acrylic steam room, on the other hand, has these two basic requirements too. However, they are easier and faster to install.

Steam Room Installation Guidelines

  1. Choose the area where you want to install the steam room
  • The height of the ceiling should be kept no lower than 7’ and higher than 8’.
  • To prevent condensation to drip on the bathers, the ceiling slope should be kept at least 3/4” per foot.
  • A steam room should be fully enclosed with vapor-proof doors to prevent the steam from escaping.
  • The enclosed area should be covered with tiles.
  • Further, there should be a proper centered drain system.
  1. Check that the walls and ceilings are not porous
  • It is highly recommended to go for marble, porcelain, granite and travertine tiles while building a steam room.
  1. Install steam generator
  • Choose the size of the generator that you should get installed in your steam room.
  • Make sure the steam generator is installed at a right place. The steam generator should ideally be placed within 10 feet of the steam head.
  • The other important utilities involved with the installation of the steam generator are a freshwater line and wiring a 240V electrical circuit.
  • Some of the places where the steam generator can be installed and be hideous include the area under the bench, in closet or cabinet, in the basement or over the attic. It should be kept at a place where it is easily accessible for maintenance and is not exposed to cold temperature.
